Privacy Policy

Overview

Places I've Been ("PIB", "we", "us") is a location-based check-in app that lets you collect digital stamps for real-world places you visit. This Privacy Policy explains what data we collect, how we use it, and your rights regarding that data.

Information We Collect

• Account information — email address and display name when you create an account.
• Location data — your GPS coordinates when you initiate a check-in. Location is used only to verify proximity to a place and is not stored continuously or tracked in the background.
• Check-in data — the places you check into, timestamps, and XP earned.
• Profile photo — if you choose to upload one.
• Usage data — anonymous analytics about how features are used, collected via standard web and app logging.

How We Use Your Information

• To provide and operate the PIB app and services.
• To verify your physical presence at a location during check-in.
• To display your profile, collection, and stats.
• To calculate XP, levels, and collection progress.
• To enable check-in offers from local businesses.
• To send optional push notifications about nearby places or offers (only if you opt in).

Location Data

PIB requests access to your location only when you open the Check In screen or the Map. We do not track your location in the background. GPS coordinates captured during a check-in are stored to record the event but are not shared with third parties or used for advertising.

Data Sharing

We do not sell your personal data. We may share data with:

• Supabase — our database and authentication provider (supabase.com).
• Google — for map rendering and place discovery via Google Maps and Places APIs.
• Vercel — our hosting provider.
• Local businesses — if you redeem a check-in offer, the business may see that you redeemed it (not your personal details).

Data Retention

We retain your account data for as long as your account is active. You may request deletion of your account and associated data at any time by emailing hello@getpib.com. Check-in history and collectibles will be permanently deleted within 30 days of your request.

Children's Privacy

PIB is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us personal information, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.

Your Rights

Depending on your location, you may have rights to access, correct, or delete your personal data, or to opt out of certain processing. To exercise any of these rights, email us at hello@getpib.com.

Security

We use industry-standard security measures including encrypted connections (HTTPS), secure authentication via Supabase, and row-level security on all database tables to protect your data.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of significant changes by posting the new policy at getpib.com/privacy and updating the date at the top.
